JUST IN! Major breakthrough for Type 1 diabetes that will provide an endless source of stem cell derived #isletcells for transplantation! When fully developed and deployed, there will be no longer be a need for organ transplants. Renowned researcher, first author of the study Camillo Ricordi presented findings at largest diabetes event in the world the #EASD2022 with 23,000 attending. Camillo posted that this is the first-in-human success of stem cell derived islet transplantation to REVERSE severe Type 1 Diabetes. He expressed profound thanks to the patients, their families, and the multi-site team of investigators, representing some of the top experts in cure-focused diabetes research including the #Vertex research team collaborators. He specifically recognized Prof. Doug Melton, the #HarvardStemCellInstitute & #Semma team for “their vision, resilience and perseverance, and for allowing me the honor to collaborate with them since 2014, resulting now in the presentation of these unprecedented clinical results.” Kudos to the companies now investing millions to cure the scourge of #typeonediabetes – This is enormous validation of the efforts global stem cell advocacy movement that has advanced the cause of this biomedical research. Note, the YouTube discussion I have linked below was produced by the Diabetes Research Institute Foundation #DRIF earlier this year. The video provides additional context. In it, Camillo discusses the promise of this work. The Diabetes Research Institute is part of the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine.
