Twenty years after the discovery of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), the study of pluripotency, differentiation, and cellular reprogramming remains one of the most dynamic areas of modern biology. Questions surrounding how cell identities are established, maintained, and changed lie at the heart of developmental biology and increasingly underpin advances in regenerative medicine, disease modeling, and cell-based therapies. To mark the twentieth anniversary of the landmark discovery of iPSCs, BMC Biology is launching the Pluripotency, Differentiation, and Reprogramming Collection, which will highlight emerging concepts, technologies, and challenges that are shaping the next phase of the field.
